# Shock inflation in universities: KPI and Lviv Polytechnic raised tuition fees by 50% — who pays more?

Applicants and their parents are facing a serious challenge: leading technical universities in Ukraine — the National Technical University «KPI» and Lviv Polytechnic — have updated their price lists for 2026. The figures are shocking: the cost of studying certain specialties has increased by 28% and even 50% compared to last year. We analyze where studying has become more expensive and how the pricing policy has changed in these two educational giants.

### Lviv Polytechnic: record price increase

The Lviv university has set a new "bar" for the most expensive majors. There is a significant increase in tuition fees compared to the previous year. This is especially true for programs related to artificial intelligence. Studying in these fields at Lviv Polytechnic is noticeably more expensive than its counterparts in Kyiv: the price reaches 100,000 hryvnias.

However, not all majors in Lviv have become inaccessible. The entry threshold for the cheapest specialties here remains at around 50–52 thousand hryvnias, which practically matches the minimum rate in Kyiv.

### KPI: the paradox of specialty costs

At the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, the pricing policy is structured differently. Here, the highest costs are primarily for humanities and economic specialties. Meanwhile, technical fields remain more accessible for students.

For example, artificial intelligence programs at KPI cost around 70,000 hryvnias, which is 30,000 cheaper than in Lviv. At the same time, economics and humanities in Kyiv cost students 83,700 hryvnias, whereas at Lviv Polytechnic, the same specialties cost between 69,500 and 75,000 hryvnias.

### Contrast with legal education

The situation with rising prices in technical universities looks even more contrasting against the backdrop of the legal education market. The cost of studying law in Ukraine varies depending on the city and the status of the institution. Last year, the most expensive course in Lviv cost almost 150,000 hryvnias per year. In Kyiv, prices range from 65,000 to 110,000 hryvnias. Meanwhile, in regional branches and colleges, one can obtain a legal education for 16,000–20,000 hryvnias per course.

Thus, in 2026, applicants will have to carefully weigh not only the quality of education but also the financial burden when choosing between technical and humanities specialties in different regions of the country.
