# Shostka Train Station After 'Shahed' Strike: How the Destroyed Building Looks and Why Trains Are Still Running

On the night of May 30, Shostka in the Sumy region became the target of a massive drone attack. Russian occupiers launched dozens of 'Shahed' drones at the city, and one or several of them hit the railway station building directly. As a result, the building was practically destroyed: the roof was blown off, walls were demolished, and the interior turned into a pile of rubble. The photo shows twisted metal structures, shards of glass scattered across the platform and concourse, as well as remnants of the 'Shostka' sign atop the ruins.

Despite the scale of destruction, miraculously, there were no human casualties. According to 'Ukrzaliznytsia', at the time of the strike, neither passengers nor station staff were inside the building — everyone was in shelters. This allowed lives to be saved, although the station infrastructure suffered serious damage.

### What about train operations?

On the morning of May 31, suburban services in the region resumed according to schedule. However, 'Ukrzaliznytsia' warns that operational route adjustments may occur depending on the condition of the tracks and overhead lines. Specialists are already assessing the damage and planning restoration work — but this will take time.

### Context of the attack

This night marked yet another episode in a series of strikes against the Shostka community. Some drones were shot down by air defense forces, but not all. In addition to the station, residential buildings, administrative structures, and vehicles were damaged. The city is once again facing the consequences of war — now in the form of ruins where people used to buy tickets and meet loved ones.

The photograph of the destroyed station is more than just images of devastation. It symbolizes how war infiltrates daily life, breaking even the most familiar points of stability. And yet — trains are still running. People continue to move. And that means there is hope for recovery.
