The Russian film distribution landscape is facing a new wave of tension. The distributor 'Atmosfera Kino', in conjunction with the Association of Cinema Owners, has sent official letters to cinema chains with strict recommendations regarding the screening schedule.

The main goal of this initiative is to shift the start of the blockbuster 'Spider-Man: New Day' to late August. The accompanying documents call for concentrating resources and screen time on promoting the domestic film 'The Last Bogatyr. Kolobok', the premiere of which is scheduled for August 6.

The situation is complicated by the fact that the distributor has threatened cinemas with a review of cooperation terms in case of refusal to follow the recommendations. This creates a serious dilemma for theater owners, forced to balance between the audience's desire to see the latest Hollywood hit and pressure from partners promoting local content.

### Legal Status of Western Films

It is important to note the context in which this dispute is taking place. The world premiere of the film 'Spider-Man: New Day' took place on July 29. However, in Russia, the situation with the distribution of Western films remains specific: they are shown without the consent of rights holders and without obtaining an official distribution certificate.

The lack of legal status makes Western films vulnerable to the demands of local distributors and associations. In fact, cinemas showing 'Spider-Man' are operating in a gray area, which gives leverage to players like 'Atmosfera Kino'.

### Battle for Screen Time

The conflict of interest has become obvious. On one side is the global Marvel brand, attracting a huge audience, and on the other is state support for the domestic film industry through the promotion of 'The Last Bogatyr'.

The threat of reviewing cooperation terms sounds like a serious signal: if cinemas do not comply and do not free up screenings for 'Kolobok', they may face difficulties working with other projects in the distributor's portfolio. The outcome of this struggle will be whether the Russian public will see the new Spider-Man in early August or will have to wait until the end of the month.
