# SportOsvita: Ukraine launches university map for selecting institutions based on sports infrastructure

A new digital service has launched in Ukraine, aiming to change how applicants choose where to study. The launched portal, SportOsvita, allows prospective students to evaluate universities not only based on the quality of education but also on the availability of modern sports infrastructure. The project, named the "Map of Student Sports," is the result of joint work by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (MES) and the Agency for Mass Sports.

### Digital tool for choosing a university

According to the MES press service, the platform is an interactive service that aggregates data on sports facilities at higher education institutions. As part of the project "Research on the state and use of sports infrastructure of higher education institutions in Ukraine," information was collected on 28 categories of sports facilities.

The main goal of the platform is to help student-athletes choose a university "not blindly." Now, applicants can find out in advance what conditions for training and physical activity a specific university offers, which is particularly relevant for those who are not ready to choose between studying and sports.

### Sport as a tool for returning to offline learning

In the conditions of war, the development of student sports has acquired special significance. Yuri Petrushenko, Director of the President of Ukraine Foundation, speaking at the presentation, emphasized the importance of projects creating new opportunities for young people.

"In the conditions of war, it is important to do sports to be healthy. Sport is the tool that can return young people to full-fledged offline learning," noted Petrushenko. He also thanked the scientists from the NGO "Innovative University" and their donors for conducting the research that became the basis for the map.

### Strategy for the development of the university environment

For government bodies, SportOsvita is not just a directory, but a strategic tool. Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Serhiy Tymofeyev stated that the development of student sports remains one of the priorities of the department.

"We strive to create conditions in which students can study effectively, train regularly, and reveal their potential. The map helps young people find opportunities to engage in sports, stay physically active, and find their sports community," explained the official.

Deputy Minister of Education and Science Andriy Viterenko added that for the universities themselves, the presence of quality infrastructure becomes a factor of competitiveness. In his words, sport forms leadership, responsibility, and teamwork skills necessary for the successful self-realization of young people, and should become an integral part of the modern university environment.
