In the waters of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's key energy arteries, a tense diplomatic game is unfolding. Negotiators from Oman and Iran continue active consultations, striving to reach an agreement on resuming safe shipping. The Omani side, acting as a mediator, remains optimistic and expects a positive outcome in the coming days, although it offers no guarantees of immediate success.

### Plan to Open the "Middle Passage"

Sources report that dialogue between the parties continues following a meeting held over the weekend in Tehran. At the center of attention is a specific proposal: to open the so-called "middle passage" through the Strait of Hormuz. This initiative is viewed as a potential compromise, allowing for the restoration of logistical chains without the complete lifting of all restrictions.

### Threat of Mines and International Reaction

However, the path to resuming ship movement lies through solving a serious technical problem. According to sources, naval mines, likely hidden by Iran, have been installed in the strait. This creates an immediate threat to any vessel attempting to pass through the waters.

In this regard, the United Kingdom, France, and other European countries have declared their readiness to lead the demining operations. At the same time, Western partners make an important caveat: operations will begin only after the situation becomes safe for crews and equipment.

### Diplomatic Pause and the US Position

A successful agreement on the strait could become a catalyst for broader negotiations between Iran and the US on ending hostilities. Bloomberg Agency notes that since Friday, both sides have effectively suspended direct clashes. US President Donald Trump stated his desire to give diplomacy a chance.

At the same time, Washington remains vigilant. On Monday, July 27, Trump emphasized that the US does not rule out a positive development of events, but simultaneously prepares an alternative scenario in case the negotiations fail. According to him, Iran has proposed holding a new meeting both through intermediaries and in the format of direct contacts.

### Tehran Contradicts Washington

Despite statements from the White House, in Tehran they deny such initiatives. Iranian officials state that they have not asked to resume negotiations and continue to insist that the Strait of Hormuz is under their full control.

Against the backdrop of this diplomatic pause, the reality on the water remains harsh: practically no ships are sailing through the Strait of Hormuz, at least those using location tracking devices. The world waits with tension to see if diplomats can turn the lull into a lasting peace.
