A massive attack by Russian missiles and drones, targeting logistics infrastructure, struck key nodes of goods distribution. The targets were not only residential areas but also the warehouses of major retailers, marketplaces, and construction chains. Experts are already warning that the consequences will be felt not only by business owners but by every consumer in the near future. ### Target — Civilian Economy On the night of August 5, Russia launched 28 missiles at Ukraine, including Iskander-M ballistic missiles, and 115 attack drones. The main strike hit Kyiv and the Kyiv region. According to the State Emergency Service (SES), the air defense system failed to shoot down any of the launched missiles. As a result, at least 17 people were killed, and dozens were injured. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that the target of the aggression was civilian enterprises unrelated to the war. "Objects not involved in the conflict: a brewing company, construction material warehouses, civilian logistics," noted the head of state. ### Catastrophe for Retail: from Epicentr to Rozetka One of the most affected enterprises was the Epicentr chain. Russian missiles destroyed a logistics center in Kyiv and two warehouse complexes. The Epicentr Ceramic Corporation plant suffered critical damage. One worker was killed in Kalynivka, and three others were injured. Due to the destruction of production kilns, the company is forced to completely halt the production of ceramic tiles in Ukraine. Production has been temporarily moved to foreign sites. Preliminary estimates suggest that recovery will take at least one and a half to two years. The marketplace Rozetka also suffered colossal damage. On its 21st birthday, the company lost its largest automated distribution center in Brovary, purchased in 2017 for $16 million. Co-founder Vladyslav Chechotkin reported that losses amount to billions of hryvnias. Despite this, the platform continues to operate, relying on a network of more than 50,000 third-party sellers. ### Strike on Logistics: Nova Poshta and Silpo The Nova Poshta sorting center in Kyiv was completely destroyed. The company reported the death of three people — two drivers of a partner carrier and one employee of a contracting organization. Another eight people were injured. Customers have been promised full compensation for all damaged shipments. The Silpo chain lost two distribution centers. "According to the latest data, six employees were killed. This is an incalculable loss for all of us," the company stated. The Novus logistics center received several direct hits and has completely ceased operations. Stockpiles are currently being redistributed among other facilities to ensure continuity of supplies. ### Economic Consequences: Shortages and Price Hikes Experts are warning of serious risks for the market. The destruction of warehouses means the loss of not only stockpiles but also frozen working capital. Companies will have to meet loan obligations and find resources to resume business. "In many cases, it is not only about the loss of stockpiles but also the need to review prices or reduce the assortment," notes Alexander Bondarenko, CEO of "Bureau of Investment Programs." Hundreds of suppliers' goods could have been on the destroyed warehouses: from small Ukrainian manufacturers to importers of equipment and food products. The warehouse space market in Kyiv is under pressure: there are almost no free premises left. This exacerbates the situation, making the restoration of logistics chains even more difficult. ### State Response The Ministry of Economy is already collecting information on business losses. A meeting with companies should take place in the near future to discuss support measures. Retail representatives call state steps to overcome the consequences of aggression a priority, including financial assistance and simplification of recovery procedures. Ukrainian business is facing an unprecedented challenge. The ability to maintain supplies and minimize damage to consumers will be a true test of strength for the country's entire economic system.
