A civilian building β€” a hospital, where expectant mothers with newborns were present at the time β€” was hit. Despite the scale of the destruction, there were no casualties. ### Destruction at the medical facility According to Oleksandr Kiper, head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, the attack caused serious damage to the hospital's infrastructure. The maternity ward and administrative buildings were the most affected. Dozens of windows were blown out, doors and facade elements were damaged, and some rooms were partially destroyed. At the time of the strike, six women with newborns were in the maternity ward. One of the patients was in the process of giving birth. Despite the proximity to the epicenter of the explosion and the intensity of the destruction, none of the expectant mothers, newborns, or medical staff were injured. ### Elimination of consequences and restoration Immediately after the attack, emergency services arrived at the scene. Medical personnel and utility crews began to eliminate the consequences of the strike. Work is underway to restore the damaged rooms to resume the full operation of the facility. ### Drone smuggling scheme thwarted Parallel to the elimination of the attack's consequences, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), together with the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense and the Naval Forces, reported the disruption of a major channel of maritime smuggling. According to intelligence agencies, an attack drone was planned to be delivered to Odesa through this channel to prepare terrorist acts. The operation to identify and neutralize this scheme lasted more than a year. The events of June 1 once again reminded of the high threat to civilian infrastructure in frontline regions. However, thanks to the quick reaction of rescuers and the professionalism of medical staff, human casualties were avoided even in such a critical situation.
