Ukrainian defense forces have carried out a large-scale series of strikes on critical infrastructure of the Russian Federation. On the night of July 12 and during the day of July 11, key oil refining facilities, sea vessels, and railway trains carrying cargo were hit.

### Fire at Syzran Refinery

One of the main events of the night was the strike on the Syzran Oil Refinery in the Samara region. According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, explosions and open fires were recorded on the territory of the enterprise. The extent of the damage and the exact results of the attack are being clarified.

The Syzran Refinery is one of the largest enterprises in the region with a design capacity of about 8.5 million tons of oil per year. The plant specializes in the production of a wide range of oil products: from automotive gasoline and diesel fuel to aviation kerosene. A significant portion of the plant's production goes to meet the needs of the Russian Armed Forces.

### Strikes on maritime communications

Parallel to the attack on the plant, Ukrainian forces struck the waters of the Sea of Azov. As a result of the operations, 10 tankers and 4 ferries were hit.

These vessels perform critically important functions for the Russian economy and army. Tankers are used to transport oil and oil products, including to bypass international sanctions, while ferries ensure military logistics and the transfer of cargo in the interests of the Russian Armed Forces.

### Disruption of rail transport

On July 11, an enemy train was also hit in the Tokmak area of the Zaporizhzhia region. The train was carrying fuel and lubricants. As a result of the strike, the destruction of a locomotive was recorded.

### Crisis in the Russian fuel industry

These attacks fit into the general picture of systematic pressure on the Russian energy sector. According to the Financial Times, as a result of Ukraine's strikes, Russia could have lost between 20% and 40% of its oil refining capacity.

The consequences are already being felt at the household level: the fuel crisis has affected more than 50 million Russians. Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that after the attack on the Omsk Refinery, Russia effectively had no large plants left capable of processing oil in full volume.
