On the horizon of Syzran, where the Volga River flows alongside giants of the petrochemical industry, the sky has been shrouded in thick smoke. This is not a production process, but the aftermath of a targeted strike. The Syzran Oil Refinery, one of Rosneft's key assets, has been paralyzed following an attack by Ukrainian drones.

### Strike on the "Heart" of Production

On May 21, an incident occurred that dealt a significant blow to the region's logistics and economy. UAVs struck a critically important unit—the CDU-6 primary oil processing unit. This is not just one of hundreds of units; it is the "heart" of the plant, providing more than 70% of its total capacity. Without this block, the enterprise effectively becomes a stopped mechanism.

### A Long Road to Recovery

The assessment of the consequences looks bleak for Russian energy carriers. According to international agencies, restoring the unit's operability will take more than a month. During this period, the plant will not be able to process crude oil in its usual volumes, which will inevitably affect fuel supplies to central Russia.

The Rosneft holding company, for its part, prefers to remain silent for now, not commenting on the scale of the damage. However, the facts speak for themselves: the plant, capable of processing 8.5 million tons of oil per year, already showed a decline in figures in 2024, processing only 4.3 million tons. The new blow only exacerbates this trend.

### Part of the Bigger Picture

The events in Syzran are not isolated. This is a continuation of a series of successful operations to destroy processing infrastructure deep within Russian territory. Previously, Yaroslavl and other major refineries in central Russia were hit. The strategy is obvious: systematic pressure on the enemy's fuel front, forcing it to reduce production volumes and redirect resources to repair and defense.
