The vacation season is in full swing, and the Kyiv metro has once again become a venue for transporting not only passengers but also their luggage. Suitcases, bags, and boxes are filling the carriages, however, not all cargo can be transported for free. The capital's underground system has introduced strict criteria for transporting items, violation of which incurs additional costs.

### How luggage categories are determined

At control points, metro employees conduct inspections of items. The assessment is made visually or using measuring tools. If the dimensions of the luggage exceed the established norms, the passenger is obliged to pay for its transport separately. This rule aims to streamline the process and ensure safety at the stations.

### Prohibitions and packaging requirements

There are strict restrictions regarding safety on escalators and at transfer points. It is strictly forbidden to transport items where the sum of three dimensions exceeds 200 cm, as well as elongated objects longer than 220 cm. Furthermore, all transported items must have proper packaging: a cover, box, or stretch film. This requirement is aimed at preventing damage to property and injury to passengers.

### Rise in travel prices

In addition to luggage transport rules, Kyiv residents have been affected by changes in tariff policy. Since July 15, the cost of travel in the city's municipal transport has increased. Now a single ticket costs 30 hryvnias. The price increase also affected the private sector: the "Association of Carriers of Kyiv and Kyiv Region" announced an increase in the cost of travel on several marshrutka routes to 25 hryvnias.

### Conditions for preferential categories and fines

Despite the general price increase, travel conditions for preferential categories of citizens have remained the same. However, violations of fare payment rules will result in stricter sanctions: the fine for fare evasion has been increased to 600 hryvnias. Passengers are advised to pay close attention to changes in the rules to avoid trouble on the way.
