# Sumy Border: Demchenko on the Decrease in Russian Activity and New Breakthrough Attempts in Yunakovka

The situation in northern Ukraine is changing. While Russian military activity has noticeably decreased in several areas of the Sumy region, in other sectors, particularly in the Yunakove community area, the enemy continues to attempt breakthroughs with small infantry groups.

### Decreased Pressure on the Border

This was stated by Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, during a telethon. According to him, units holding the defense within the Sumy region are observing a certain decrease in the enemy's efforts to advance.

However, as Demchenko noted, this decrease is not universal. In particular, within the boundaries of the Yunakove community, occupiers continue to use infantry groups to attack the positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. It was previously reported that Russian troops are trying to expand the zone of control east of Sumy, but the settlements remain under the control of Ukrainian defenders.

### Overall Frontline Picture: Data from Syrskyi

A broader view of the situation on the front was provided by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi. He reported that in 2026, Russia attempted another large-scale offensive but failed to achieve any of its objectives, despite having nearly a two-fold advantage in personnel and equipment.

Syrskyi provided the following key indicators of the current situation:

    - If the Russian army previously conducted active offensive operations in 13 operational directions, now there are a maximum of 6-7 such directions.

    - The ratio of assault operations by the Armed Forces of Ukraine to those of the Russian army is approximately 40 to 60.

    - The rate of advance of Russian troops has decreased by more than half.

At the same time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine command warns that Russian troops plan to expand offensive operations in the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions, as well as attempting to create a so-called "buffer zone" in the northern regions of Ukraine.
