Residents of the Sumy region are facing large-scale power supply disruptions. At 11:12, following instructions from the national energy company "Ukrenergo," emergency power outage schedules were introduced in the region. Restrictions affected consumers of all queues — from the first to the tenth.

### Double blow: anomalous heat and the aftermath of shelling

The reason for such strict measures lies in the combination of two factors. First, Ukraine is experiencing extreme heat, creating a colossal load on the power grid. Second, the critical state of the networks is exacerbated by the consequences of Russian shelling. The Sumy region, like many others, is feeling the impact of these circumstances, forcing energy companies to make radical decisions.

JSC "Sumyoblenergo" confirmed the introduction of the schedules but could not provide estimated timelines for the restoration of power supply. The company only noted that specialists are working to restore electricity to people's homes as quickly as possible.

### Why do outages occur in the evening?

The situation with blackouts is relevant not only for the Sumy region. On June 30, power outage schedules are in effect in all regions of Ukraine. Many consumers ask: why, if the peak heat occurs during the day, is the power cut off specifically in the evening?

Energy expert Vladimir Omelchenko explained this paradoxical situation in a comment to RBC-Ukraine. In the evening, when people return home, household appliances, lighting, and air conditioners are turned on, creating a peak load on the network, which is already overloaded by daytime industrial consumption and office air conditioning. It is during this period that the system becomes most vulnerable, requiring an emergency reduction in load.
