# Sybyga and Sikorski in Warsaw: How Ukraine and Poland Decided to Bury Historical Disputes

An important meeting took place in Warsaw between the Foreign Ministers of Ukraine and Poland, which could become a turning point in the relations between the two countries. Andriy Sybyga and Radosław Sikorski discussed ways to reduce tensions and proposed concrete steps to normalize the dialogue.

### Common Enemy and Common Interests

Andriy Sybyga, heading the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, began the meeting by emphasizing the strategic importance of the partnership. According to him, Poland is vital for Ukraine, just as Ukraine is for Poland. They are united by a common challenge — Russian aggression. Sybyga also expressed gratitude for the unprecedented support that Warsaw provided to Kyiv in 2022 after the start of the full-scale invasion.

### Unlocking Historical Issues

Special attention was paid to sensitive issues of the shared past. Sybyga stated that significant progress has been made over the last year and a half. In particular, the exhumation of remains has been unblocked, and the work of the historians' congress has resumed. Ukraine intends to continue issuing permits for search and exhumation operations.

The minister also commented on the situation regarding the names of Ukrainian Armed Forces units named after UPA heroes. He assured that such decisions do not have anti-Polish intentions and called on both sides to show wisdom so as not to play into Moscow's hands, which rejoices at any increase in tension between neighbors.

### Economy and Security

In addition to historical issues, the leaders discussed the prospects of military-technical cooperation. An exchange of views took place on the eve of the NATO summit in Ankara. The parties also touched upon topics of economic interaction: joint projects for the reconstruction of Ukraine and the acceleration of customs procedures for businesses and citizens.

### The Mistake with the Order of the White Eagle

Radosław Sikorski, in turn, made an important statement regarding the decision to deprive Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the Order of the White Eagle. The Polish minister called this decision a mistake, noting that it humiliated the leader of a warring state. Sybyga confirmed that Kyiv is not interested in creating tension and has always valued the neighbor's support.
