# Alexander Syrsky: Ukraine is leading Russia to the 'culminating point' of resource exhaustion

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Syrsky, commented on the current phase of the conflict in an interview with The Times. According to him, it is premature to speak of a turning point, but Kyiv's strategy remains unchanged: to exhaust the adversary's resources to a critical limit.

### Clausewitz's Theory in Practice

General Syrsky declined to confirm an imminent fundamental turning point in the war. Instead, he described the tactics employed by the Defense Forces. The main goal is to force the Russian army to reach the so-called 'culminating point.' This concept from Carl von Clausewitz's military theory describes the moment when an enemy's strength reaches its peak, after which an inevitable decline and exhaustion follow.

"I cannot say directly that the war is approaching a turning point. We hope that a moment will come when the adversary mobilizes all its forces, resources, and capabilities, after which exhaustion will set in, and then a turning point may follow," the Commander-in-Chief explained.

### The Window of Technological Opportunity

Syrsky warned that the current situation is dynamic and the "window of opportunity" is limited in time. Modern warfare has become a continuous competition of technologies and resources. The situation on the battlefield can be radically changed by sudden breakthroughs by either side, whether it be the development of new weaponry or means of countering it.

### Balance of Losses and Mobilization

Previously, Alexander Syrsky provided data indicating that Russia's mobilization resources are failing to cover losses on the front. According to his estimates, since the beginning of 2026, the Defense Forces have neutralized more than 183,000 Russian military personnel. During the same period, the Kremlin managed to recruit only about 180,000 people.

It is important to note the structure of the adversary's losses: more than 60% of them consist of servicemen eliminated on the battlefield.

### Dominance in Unmanned Warfare

Unmanned systems play a key role in destroying the enemy's manpower and equipment. The Commander-in-Chief noted that Ukraine maintains an advantage in the "drone war." According to his data, the ratio of FPV drones in favor of the Ukrainian army is 1.5 to 1.

The effectiveness of UAV deployment is confirmed by May statistics. Drone units managed to strike nearly 180,000 verified enemy targets. In addition, Ukrainian air defense systems and UAVs destroyed 4,000 "Shahed" kamikaze drones.
