# Tactical Shift: Russia Moves to Mass Production of 'Banderol' Cruise Missiles for Strikes on Southern Ukraine

The situation in the sphere of defense production and weapons application has undergone significant changes. According to the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) of Ukraine, Russia has completed the testing phase of a new lightweight cruise missile named 'Banderol' (S8000) and has transitioned to its serial production. Experts note that while the design of the product continues to evolve, its main characteristics already allow for its application in real combat conditions.

### New Attack Vector: Southern Ukraine Under Fire

According to representatives of the GUR, Russia has significantly increased the use of this weapon, particularly against southern regions of Ukraine. The 'Banderol' missile was initially developed as an ordnance launched from medium-altitude unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the 'Orion' type.

Unlike many other systems, 'Banderol' has a narrow specialization: it is intended exclusively for striking stationary targets with predetermined coordinates. Experts emphasize that this missile is not used for attacks on moving targets or naval vessels. Nevertheless, its application creates serious problems for the Ukrainian air defense system.

One of the key difficulties is the ineffectiveness of modern interception means. As a GUR representative noted, popular FPV interceptor drones do not work against this missile, making 'Banderol' a dangerous tool for striking infrastructure.

### Technical Specifications and Foreign Involvement

An analysis of shot-down missiles and non-detonated ordnance, conducted by Ukrainian specialists, revealed a significant proportion of foreign-made electronic components in the 'Banderol' design. The obtained data, including part serial numbers, is being transmitted to international partners. This allows for strengthening export control and tightening sanctions policy against suppliers.

The key element ensuring the missile's flight is a Chinese turbojet engine manufactured by the company Swiwin. The engine's characteristics are impressive:

    - The engine weighs 8.5 kg.

    - The maximum rotational speed reaches 65,000 rpm.

    - The developed thrust is up to 81.6 kgf.

Thanks to such powerful engine characteristics, the declared flight range of the missile reaches 500 km. The warhead is a fragmentation high-explosive type OFBCh-150. The total weight of the ordnance is 114.3 kg, of which 49.5 kg is pure explosive substance.

### Consequences of Application and Escalation

During the investigation of the consequences of strikes on Odesa, experts identified a significant portion of the new weapons as 'Banderol' type missiles. This confirms the thesis that the Russian army has moved to the active use of jet drones, hybrid loitering munitions, and small-sized cruise missiles.

The Head of the Communications Department of the Ukrainian Air Force, Yuriy Ignatiy, confirmed that Russians are increasingly using such systems for strikes on Ukrainian territory. A bright example of escalation was July 28, when strikes were carried out on the Mykolaiv region using 'Shaheds', 'Banderols', and KAB aviation bombs. As a result of the attack, destruction was recorded and four people were injured.

The transition to serial production and the active integration of 'Banderol' into the combat order indicates that Russia continues to seek ways to bypass Ukrainian defense systems, using available technological chains and adapting weapons application tactics to the current conditions of the conflict.
