# Blockade, Earthquake, and Cyberattacks: Taiwan Conducts Drills for the Most Frightening Invasion Scenario

Taiwanese authorities have conducted large-scale civil resilience drills, simulating one of the most severe possible scenarios. The event was a response to increasing pressure from the PRC and aimed to test the island's readiness for various crisis situations.

### The "Perfect Storm" Scenario

The drill's scenario combined military and natural threats. According to the plan, China simultaneously imposed a naval blockade on the island and exploited a destructive earthquake to intensify chaos. The virtual adversary attacked critical infrastructure, hijacked television broadcasts, triggered mass bank withdrawals and public unrest, before launching a full-scale invasion.

The maneuvers simulated drone attacks on energy facilities, mass cyberattacks, the spread of disinformation, and disruptions in government services. Simultaneously, authorities had to mitigate the aftermath of a strong earthquake and coordinate emergency services for population evacuation.

### From Formalism to Reality

The drills took place in Nantou County and were part of President Lai Ching-te's program to enhance the island's readiness for a potential military conflict. More than 370 representatives from central authorities, local administrations, and the military command participated in the maneuvers.

Chi Lian-cheng, who oversaw the event, noted that previous exercises were often criticized for being merely formal. Therefore, the authorities have now made them as close to real conditions as possible. According to him, the civil defense system still requires refinement, but the main task of such training is to test the readiness of local authorities to make decisions in crisis conditions.

"Our enemy is right at our doorstep, just across the Taiwan Strait. It is very close," emphasized Chi Lian-cheng. He also added: "If you do not defend your country, who else will defend you? I think people are beginning to understand this."

### Military Pressure in Real Time

Against the backdrop of the conclusion of the drills, the situation around the island remains tense. Taiwan reported that China once again conducted military patrols around the island involving warships and no fewer than 22 aircraft, including H-6 strategic bombers.

Earlier, PRC President Xi Jinping reaffirmed Beijing's course on reunification with Taiwan, stating that the country's authorities intend to achieve "complete reunification of the motherland".
