Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (KNU) has officially approved tuition fees for applicants entering in 2026. The university administration, traditionally holding leading positions in Ukrainian rankings, has fixed a significant increase in the cost of educational services. Depending on the chosen specialty, the contract cost has risen by 27% compared to the previous academic year.

According to data published by RBC-Ukraine, the university has set a new price benchmark. For the first time, the cost of studying on certain programs has exceeded the mark of 119,000 UAH per year. This elite category includes three absolutely new training directions for KNU.

### Price Increases in Popular Fields

Significant price hikes have affected not only new programs but also classic ones that are in high demand among applicants. The English-language program "International Commerce and Investments," available to students for several years, has become more expensive by almost 8%. Now, a year of study in this specialty will cost 103,100 UAH.

The most noticeable price jump occurred in the sphere of humanities, law, and economics. A year of study in specialties such as "Journalism," "Tourism," "International Relations," "International Economics," "Finance," "Law," "Marketing," and "Public Administration" now costs 97,100 UAH. For comparison: last year, similar programs cost applicants 76,600 UAH, indicating a tariff increase of almost a quarter.

### IT Sector and Natural Sciences

A similar trend is observed in the technical sector. For studying in the fields of "Computer Science," "Cybersecurity," and "Software Engineering," applicants in 2026 will have to pay 77,700 UAH. This also corresponds to a price increase of 27%.

The most affordable options in the university remain natural sciences and specialties focused on teacher training. The contract cost at these faculties is 54,600 UAH per year. However, even in this category, traditionally considered budget-friendly, prices have risen by almost 25% compared to last year.

It is worth noting that the increase in tuition fees at KNU is taking place against the backdrop of a general trend in Ukrainian higher education. It was previously reported that the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and Lviv Polytechnic also updated their price lists for 2026, where price increases for certain specialties reached 28% and 50%, respectively.

Despite the cost increase, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv retains its status as one of the leading universities in the country. In 2026, the university became the leader of the annual consolidated rating of higher education institutions in Ukraine for the tenth year in a row, which included 240 universities from all regions.
