Former undisputed world champion in three weight classes, Terence Crawford, has revealed the true reasons behind his decision to retire. In an interview with the radio station Breakfast Club Power 105.1 FM, the American admitted that he lost his motivation following the collapse of his move to the middleweight division and the cancellation of his fight with Janibek Alimkhanuly.

### Failed Transition and Loss of Purpose

The key factor influencing the 38-year-old athlete's decision was the situation surrounding Kazakh boxer Janibek Alimkhanuly. He was disqualified for a positive doping test, which prevented the fight with Erislandy Lara that was supposed to determine the title contender. It was at this moment that Crawford realized further fighting had lost its meaning.

"If you look at when I decided to retire, you'll understand that it happened after the situation with Janibek. Just analyze the global situation that unfolded in boxing at that time. The question of a rematch with Canelo was taken off the agenda. No one was talking about it back then," the former champion commented on the situation.

### Absence of Titles and History

The American emphasized that he never fought for empty words. He stated directly that a fight with Alimkhanuly, who was not the reigning champion at the time, offered him nothing of value. According to Crawford, the only result of such a bout would have been talk about him having "beaten a young lion."

"I asked people: 'What do I get out of this fight?'. That's it," the boxer summarized.

For Terence, every fight since 2014 had a clear goal: defending a title, winning a new belt, or maintaining his status as an undefeated fighter. When the situation no longer offered the opportunity to "make history," he made the decision to leave.

### The Path to Undisputed Championship

Crawford's career has become one of the most successful in modern boxing. He became the undisputed world champion in three weight classes:

    - In 2017, he won all belts in the junior welterweight division by defeating Julius Indongo from Namibia.

    - In 2023, he became the undisputed champion in the welterweight division by overcoming his compatriot Errol Spence.

    - In his last fight, he defeated Mexican Canelo Alvarez, becoming the undisputed champion in the middleweight division.

Crawford also noted that a rematch with Saul Alvarez could have taken place if it had been stipulated in the contract before the first fight. However, in the current reality where such agreements were absent, he did not seek new fights without prospects.
