# Three Days Under Fire: How Russian Strikes on Naftogaz in the Kharkiv Region Threaten Ukraine's Winter Gas Supply

Ukrainian energy infrastructure is facing a new wave of aggression. For three consecutive days, Russian forces have been deliberately attacking gas extraction facilities of the company "Naftogaz of Ukraine" in the Kharkiv region. Systematic strikes on extraction assets have already led to local fires, equipment shutdowns, and the risk of reduced production volumes ahead of the heating season.

### Chronicle of Attacks: From Fires to Widespread Destruction

The escalation began on Sunday when Russian forces struck one of the key extraction assets in the Kharkiv region. A shell hit caused a fire on the enterprise's territory. Rescuers from the State Emergency Service (SES) promptly arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire; however, the consequences of the attack were significant: equipment had to be shut down, leading to a loss of some gas production volumes.

On Monday morning, the enemy repeated the attack, this time targeting a different gas extraction facility. Extensive infrastructure damage was recorded at the site. Currently, company specialists are assessing the scale of the damage, although exact data on financial losses and restoration timelines have not yet been released.

### The Human Factor: Personnel Safety

Despite the intensity of the shelling, no human casualties have been reported. During both attacks, Naftogaz employees were in special shelters. The company confirmed that there are no injured personnel, which indicates that warning systems are functioning and safety rules are being observed at the facilities.

### Risks for the Winter Season

The current series of attacks is not an isolated incident. Recall that on July 17, Russia carried out a massive attack on Naftogaz facilities in three regions at once: Kharkiv, Poltava, and Sumy. At that time, fires broke out at several enterprises, and operations were temporarily suspended.

RBK-Ukraine analysts, studying the situation, note that despite regular shelling, the rate of gas injection into underground storage facilities has not yet decreased. Ukraine continues to meet its plans for resource accumulation. However, experts warn: as winter approaches, the risk of expensive equipment failing due to physical damage is increasing. Each new strike on infrastructure increases the likelihood of disruptions in the gas supply system during the most critical period.
