# Thunderstorms and squalls: forecasters declare elevated danger for western Ukraine

Forecasters from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center have declared an elevated level of weather danger. The focus is on the western regions of the country, where complex meteorological conditions are expected on July 18. While most of Ukraine will be under the influence of an anticyclone, increased thunderstorm activity is forecast for the west.

### Threat of hail and strong wind gusts

According to the official forecast, thunderstorms will occur in most western regions during the day on July 18. Meteorologists warn of the possibility of hail in certain areas. Squalls pose a particular danger, with wind speeds potentially reaching 15–20 m/s. Such gusts are capable of damaging infrastructure and uprooting trees.

Across the country, the wind will blow predominantly from the southeast at 5–10 m/s. Daytime temperatures will range from +22° to +27° Celsius. However, in the west and southwest of the country, the air will heat up more strongly — to +26°...+31°.

### Weather in Kyiv and the Kyiv region

The capital and surrounding regions will be in a zone of calmer weather today. In the Kyiv region, slight cloudiness is expected without precipitation. The wind will be from the southeast, moderate, 5–10 m/s. Air temperatures in the region will vary from +22° to +27°. In Kyiv itself, thermometers will show +25°...+27°.

### Forecast for the coming days

Forecaster Natalia Didenko clarified that the anticyclone will prevent precipitation in most regions of Ukraine. Thunderstorms are likely exclusively in the western part of the country. At the same time, the forecaster noted that in the evening of July 19, the precipitation zone may shift and reach the Zhytomyr and Vinnytsia regions.
