# Thunderstorms, hail, and squalls: meteorologist warns of contrasting weather in Ukraine over the weekend

In the coming days, the weather in Ukraine will be a true test of endurance. Residents are in for a sharp change in atmospheric phenomena: from scorching heat to heavy downpours with hail. Meteorologists predict that the weather will differ radically not only from region to region but also from day to day.

This was stated in an interview with RBC-Ukraine by Ivan Semylit, a meteorologist from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center. According to him, the country is expected to experience active changes in synoptic situations over the next three days.

### Battle of atmospheric fronts

Over the upcoming weekend, July 18 and 19, a field of high atmospheric pressure will dominate most of Ukraine. This promises sunny, warm, and calm weather without precipitation. However, the situation will be different in the western regions. It is there that an active atmospheric front coming from the west will hit.

On Sunday, July 19, the precipitation zone will expand and also affect Zhytomyr and Vinnytsia regions. The meteorologist warns that the front will be quite active and will bring precipitation of varying intensity.

### Dangerous phenomena: hail and squalls

In the zones where the atmospheric front passes, the weather will become aggressive. During the day, not just rain but local heavy downpours and thunderstorms are expected. In some areas, meteorologists forecast hail and wind squalls with speeds reaching 15–20 meters per second.

Already on Monday, July 20, short-term rains with thunderstorms are expected in most regions of the country. Although the front will be less active than on the weekend, it will still bring precipitation.

### Temperature spread

The temperature regime will also be unstable. At night, the air temperature will range from +11°C to +19°C, and during the day from +22°C to +27°C. However, as early as tomorrow, July 18, in the west and southwest, and from July 19–20 across most of Ukraine, thermometer readings will rise to +26...+31°C.

After the passage of the atmospheric front, on July 20, a slight cooling is expected in the western regions: daytime maximums will drop to +20...+25°C.

### Forecast for mid-week

From July 21 to 22, precipitation will shift to the center, north, and then to the south and east of the country. During these days, short-term summer rains with thunderstorms are expected. In other regions, the weather will remain without precipitation.

The temperature background during these days will be as follows: at night from +14°C to +20°C, during the day from +24°C to +30°C. The exception will be the southeastern part of Ukraine (Crimea, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, Luhansk, and Dnipropetrovsk regions). There, due to more clearings and active sun, the air will heat up more strongly.

At the same time, in the western and northern regions on July 22, it will be cooler: at night from +10°C to +16°C, during the day from +19°C to +25°C.

According to the main trends, on July 23, short-term rains with thunderstorms will still prevail in most regions. At other times, the weather will remain without precipitation, and the temperature will stay within comfortable limits.
