# Timur Tkachenko: from dismissal in Kyiv to a new appointment in the region

A significant personnel change has occurred in the military authority system in Kyiv. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed Decree No. 676/2026, appointing Timur Tkachenko as the head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration (KOVA). The document was approved on July 30, confirming the head of state's final decision on this matter.

### Quick return to a leadership position

Tkachenko's appointment was an unexpected turn of events, considering that just two weeks ago, on July 16, he was dismissed from the position of head of the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA). On the same day, Andriy Tkachev was appointed Acting Head of the KMVA. Thus, Tkachenko changed his status from head of the city administration to head of the regional structure.

### Why did the position become vacant?

The position of head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration became vacant after its previous head, Mykola Kalashnyk, moved to work at the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. This created a need for the urgent appointment of a new leader capable of ensuring effective management of the region under wartime conditions.

### Coordination procedure

Timur Tkachenko's candidacy for the new position was preliminarily approved by the government last week. The final decision, as required by law, remained with the President. Decree No. 676/2026 became the legal confirmation of this decision.

### Tkachenko's professional path

Timur Tkachenko has extensive experience in management and defense. He headed the Kyiv City Military Administration from December 31, 2024, replacing Serhiy Popko on this post. Before his appointment to this position, he held important posts in the government: he was Deputy Minister for Communities and Territories Development, as well as Deputy Minister for Strategic Industries.

### Significance of the appointment

Tkachenko's appointment as head of KOVA demonstrates trust in his professional qualities by the country's leadership. Despite his recent dismissal from the post of head of KMVA, he was given the opportunity to continue working in the military administration system, but now at a higher level of responsibility.
