# Trump Accuses Canada of Intentional Negligence Over Wildfires and Threatens New Tariffs

US President Donald Trump expressed sharp dissatisfaction with the situation regarding wildfires in Canada. In a post on the social network Truth Social, he stated that the American side holds Ottawa fully responsible for the improper care of forest areas.

### Accusation of Intentional Negligence

According to Trump, the lack of proper control over forestry has led to "dirty, polluted, and unhealthy air" penetrating the territory of the United States. The American leader called the air quality "dangerous and absolutely unacceptable".

Trump emphasized that he considers what is happening not a coincidence, but a result of "intentional negligence". In his words, this problem has become an annual phenomenon that causes billions of dollars in damage to the US economy.

### Threat of Tariff Hikes

As a response measure, the US President proposed including the cost of pollution damage in the customs duties that Canada currently pays. "The cost of this pollution must certainly be added to the tariffs," he wrote.

Trump also announced his intention to contact the Prime Minister of Canada within the day to discuss Ottawa's actions to prevent such situations. He accused Canadian authorities of neglecting basic forestry and the removal of forest debris, despite obvious risks.

### Context of Trade Relations

This statement continued the tense trade rhetoric between the two countries. Earlier, in September, Trump announced the imposition of 35% tariffs on all imports from Canada, with the exception of goods covered by the 2020 agreement between the US, Canada, and Mexico.

At the end of October 2025, the American President suspended trade negotiations with Canadian colleagues. The reason was the use in the Canadian information campaign of a quote by former US President Ronald Reagan regarding tariffs, which displeased Trump.

It is worth noting that Canada has already made significant concessions in the trade sphere: the country canceled a number of counter-tariffs and abandoned the introduction of a digital services tax that was supposed to affect the interests of American technology companies.
