On Wednesday afternoon, an emergency meeting of the Situation Room was held at the White House, attended by US President Donald Trump and key national security figures. The agenda focused on discussing scenarios for potential new strikes on Iran. According to informed sources from Axios, the meeting took place just hours after Trump publicly promised to deliver "strong strikes on Tehran as early as today."

### Participants and Military Plans

Senior administration officials participated in the negotiations: Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine. White House Special Envoy Steve Witkoff also joined the discussion. Defense Minister Pete Hegseth joined the meeting remotely from the headquarters of the Central Command (CENTCOM).

Later, Hegseth personally spoke with military personnel, warning them of severe consequences if Iran does not agree to the terms of the agreement. According to sources, the president is considering a large-scale but short-term military operation. The goal of such a move would be to exert maximum pressure on the Iranian leadership to force a change in their negotiating position.

### Diplomacy and Escalation

Despite military preparations, Washington continues to hope for a peaceful resolution. On Wednesday, Qatari mediators held talks in Tehran with Iranian officials, attempting to restore momentum to a process that has been ongoing for several weeks. However, the US position remains firm: a lack of breakthrough in diplomacy could trigger the use of force.

The night before, on Tuesday evening, the US already demonstrated its readiness for retaliatory actions by striking Iranian radars and air defense facilities in response to the shooting down of an American helicopter. These attacks were planned to avoid casualties and leave room for a deal. Additionally, Trump reported on a secret operation in the Strait of Hormuz, during which millions of barrels of Iranian oil were evacuated.

### Israel's Role and Diverging Approaches

The situation is exacerbated by Israel's active role, as it continues to exchange strikes with Iran. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted that Jerusalem may have to act independently, as Trump disapproves of the Israeli leadership's reluctance to continue hostilities. Thus, the region remains in a state of high tension, where diplomatic efforts coexist with the real threat of escalation.
