According to Trump, these guarantees were given personally during recent meetings. ### The China question: a leader's word The White House chief paid particular attention to his conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping, which took place in Beijing. Trump emphasized that the Chinese leader gave a direct promise: under no circumstances will China supply weapons to Iran. According to the American president, this commitment also extends to private Chinese companies. "Given our relationship, I believe him on his word, and besides, I am doing him a big favor," Trump wrote, noting the importance of diplomatic dialogue in the current situation. ### Russia's position and the Ukrainian context As for Russia, Trump also stated that he received assurances from Vladimir Putin regarding the refusal to sell weapons to Tehran. At the same time, the American leader noted that, despite the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the maintenance of relations with President Zelenskyy, Moscow understands its benefit from non-interference in the Iranian issue. Trump added that, in his opinion, Putin realizes that the US does not supply weapons directly to Ukraine, but does so through NATO countries, which pay the full cost of the armaments. "I have no idea exactly how this weapons distribution works," he admitted. ### Consequences and threats of escalation The American president expressed confidence that neither Russia nor China would risk their interests by supplying weapons to Iran. "If they did that, it would be very bad for them β€” certainly not in their interests," Trump stated. Recall that earlier Trump had already stated the possibility of resuming a large-scale military operation against Iran in response to attacks on merchant vessels. He also announced a mechanism for compensating for damage caused by such attacks.
