# Trump comments on his future in NATO: 'The Alliance has changed, but the US pays too much'

US President Donald Trump made it clear that the NATO summit in Turkey is not the last Alliance meeting he will attend. This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing a White House broadcast.

While speaking with the press, one journalist noted that based on Trump's words, he only came to the NATO summit because the meeting was held in Turkey. In this regard, Trump was asked if this was the last summit with his participation. The answer was unequivocal:

"No. I think they have come a long way today. They made some concessions. And, in my opinion, NATO has changed very much today," said the US President.

### Financial burden and historical context

According to Trump, one of the key things is that the US should not pay such money as it does now. He emphasized that he achieved a review of financial obligations during his first presidential term, however, former US President Joe Biden immediately returned everything back.

"And let me repeat, we are there to protect them, not ourselves. Originally, NATO was created to protect against the USSR, now against Russia. But then it was specifically about the Soviet Union. And, to be honest, we are very far away. An ocean separates us. We'll see," said the American leader.

He added that the current summit resolved many issues and it was a "very good meeting".

### Rumors of summit cancellation

Recall that recently Bloomberg reported that NATO is considering canceling the 2027 summit to avoid exacerbating relations with US President Donald Trump. The discussion regarding the cancellation of annual summits began this week in Ankara.

The next summit was supposed to take place in Albania, but now it may not happen. The whole reason is that allies intend to avoid attention to the fact that Albania is one of the countries with the lowest defense spending in NATO.
