The situation in the Middle East has reached a critical point, with Washington once again at the center of attention. US President Donald Trump, speaking to journalists aboard his plane after the NATO summit in Turkey, made an unexpected statement: Iran initiated contact with the US side with a proposal to strike a deal. This comes amid a series of military strikes launched by the US against Iranian territory.

### "They Want It Very Much, But Do They Deserve It?"

Trump confirmed that the Iranian side did indeed call the White House. "They called some time ago, they really want to make a deal. I just don't know if they deserve such a deal," the American leader stated. His words served as a response to recent escalation, where Iran attacked commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, and the US retaliated with strikes on military facilities in Iran.

### Cycle of Retribution: "20 Points Against Their Attack"

The US President emphasized that every time Iran attacks, Washington responds with a "difference of 20 points." He also noted that he constantly hears threats against him and that he is "number one on their list." Trump added that the Iranians attacked the ships precisely when the sides could have reached an agreement because they are "a little crazy".

### Second Day of Strikes and Threat of Escalation

On the night of July 9, the US launched a second consecutive strike against Iran. Trump called this "retribution" for the attack on three commercial vessels carried out by Tehran on July 7. He warned that the situation would worsen if Iran continued its provocations. In response, Iranian authorities have already announced their counter-attack.

### Not Interested in Negotiations — But the Call Was Made

Interestingly, earlier at the NATO summit, Trump stated that he was not interested in negotiations with Iran. However, the fact of the call from Tehran suggests that dialogue is possible — at least at the level of contacts. The question remains whether Washington is ready to accept it and how serious the intentions of both sides are.
