# Trump on Talks with Iran: Nuclear Progress, $6 Billion Dispute, and Threats to the Strait of Hormuz

The United States and Iran have concluded another round of indirect negotiations in Qatar. The meetings, held in Doha on Wednesday, were technical in nature: the parties communicated through intermediaries — Qatar and Pakistan. Donald Trump, commenting on the results of the dialogue, called them "very good" and expressed optimism before boarding the presidential plane.

"They had very good meetings, and then we'll see. The denuclearization of Iran is progressing well," the American leader stated.

### Control Mechanism and Secrecy of Negotiations

Representatives of Washington and Tehran agreed to open a permanent communication channel necessary for monitoring the implementation of the memorandum signed two weeks ago. The document gives the parties 60 days to prepare a final agreement. The next week of negotiations is planned to be kept secret to avoid escalation and "missile flights".

However, a full-fledged dialogue is being hindered by the conflict over the Strait of Hormuz and the war between Israel and "Hezbollah". Despite this, according to the US Central Command, shipping through the strait remains open.

### Financial Dispute: $6 Billion vs American Goods

The key stumbling block became the financial issue. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Garibabadi announced an agreement on the unblocking of assets.

"By tomorrow, a communication channel will be created to record violations. Part of the frozen funds amounting to $6 billion will be released," the Iranian official noted. According to him, the first batch of $3 billion is already being prepared for transfer.

However, the official Washington denies these statements. American officials claim that no agreements on the return of money have been reached yet. The US insists that any funds can only be used to purchase American goods.

### Strait of Hormuz and the Threat of Force

An important point of the trade was the control of sea routes. Iran wants to obtain the right to charge fees for the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian officials speak of their readiness to use force to defend this right.

Washington urges Iranians to "think on a larger scale". American diplomats are persuading that the lifting of sanctions will bring Iran 100 times more profit from oil sales than "gangster tactics" in the strait. Trump warned Tehran of the consequences of aggression on the water: every attack will receive a powerful US response against targets that will worsen the country's position in the region.

### US Position and Israel's Reaction

US Vice President JD Vance stated that Washington is talking to Tehran from a position of strength. He emphasized that the White House has all options for action if Iran resumes its nuclear program or the financing of terrorism.

"But what we should never do is drop bombs just for the sake of dropping bombs. And that is exactly what the president will never ask you to do," Vance addressed US military personnel. He added that Trump clearly defines the goals of wars, unlike previous administrations.

At the same time, Israel is staying out of these agreements. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu distanced himself from the negotiations in Doha. Israeli officials are dissatisfied with the terms, believing that the agreement does not solve the main problems. Nevertheless, the text of the memorandum calls the conditions binding not only for the US and Iran, but also for their allies.

### Market Reaction

After the cessation of mutual shelling between the US and Iran, oil prices fell to almost the level at the beginning of the war. However, despite the drop in quotes, the oil market is in cautious expectation of further steps by the parties.
