The situation in the Persian Gulf and the Middle East has reached a critical point. US President Donald Trump has publicly stated that he is in the final stages of deciding whether to resume a large-scale military operation against Iran. The White House chief emphasized that the planned actions could exceed the scale of previous strikes carried out as part of Operation "Epic Fury".

### "I am close to making a decision"

In his statement, Trump noted the readiness of the US armed forces for immediate action. "I am considering the possibility of a massive attack. Larger than ever before. I am close to making a decision. We are ready for this," Axios quotes the president.

Despite the US leader's determined words, two senior officials confirmed that no new orders have been given to the military at this time. The final directive has not yet been signed, although the decision-making process is in an active phase.

### The Israel Factor and Regional Risks

A key aspect of the potential operation is the possible involvement of Israel. Trump stated that the Israeli side is ready to join the strikes almost instantly — "within two minutes" of a corresponding request. At the same time, the president emphasized that the United States possesses the full potential to conduct hostilities independently.

At the same time, Trump warned of the risks of involving Israel, hinting that this could provoke a harsher response from Tehran. It is expected that relations between Washington and Tel Aviv will be discussed personally, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu intends to visit Washington to attend the farewell ceremony for Senator Lindsey Graham.

### Escalation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea

The immediate cause of the escalation was the ongoing attacks on commercial vessels. Over the past 12 days, the US has increased military activity in the Strait of Hormuz, attempting to stop Iranian actions. However, according to sources, Tehran has not only failed to soften its position but has continued to escalate.

Additional tension arose due to attacks by Iran-backed Houthis on Saudi vessels in the Red Sea. These incidents affected one of the key global oil supply routes, which immediately reflected on global markets. The cost of a barrel of oil has already exceeded the $100 mark.

Commenting on the situation on the social network Truth Social, Trump directly blamed Iran for the Houthis' actions. "The Houthis are Iranian puppets, so Iran and, of course, the Houthis themselves will face serious military punishment," the president wrote.

### Failure of Negotiations

Parallel to the military rhetoric, attempts at diplomatic settlement continue. However, according to American mediators, the Iranian leadership did not accept the last proposed initiative. "We are trying, but the Iranians are not helping," noted one source familiar with the negotiations. Despite Tehran's statements about its readiness for dialogue, the signing of an agreement remains in question.
