# Trump on the war: 'Putin is ready for a deal', but the US is preparing 'hellish sanctions'

US President Donald Trump expressed confidence that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine could be resolved before his term expires in January 2029. The American leader stated this in an interview with Fox News, where he discussed the prospects for ending the hostilities.

### Personal contact and call to stop

During the conversation with journalists, Trump admitted that he initially expected a quicker resolution to the crisis. According to him, he hoped the war would end even before the start of his presidency, as he maintains working relationships with both leaders — Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"I think yes [the war will end during my term]. I thought it would end even before the start. That would have been the easiest, because I get along with both leaders," Trump noted.

Answering a question about what exactly he is telling the Russian leadership, the US President did not go into details of diplomatic negotiations, but voiced the essence of his message: "I keep telling him the same thing... Vladimir, it's time to stop. It's time to end this war".

### Signals from the Kremlin and timing

Trump also shared his opinion on the Russian side's readiness for negotiations. He expressed confidence that Vladimir Putin understands the need for a compromise.

"I think he is ready to make a deal," the American leader stated.

When asked for clarification on when exactly the peace treaty might be signed, Trump answered evasively, using the metaphor that "tango is danced by two," but added that a solution could be found "soon".

### Parallel course: "Hellish sanctions" and tariffs

Despite optimistic forecasts regarding diplomatic settlement, active work continues in the US to tighten economic pressure on Moscow. Trump confirmed that the likelihood of passing the "hellish sanctions" bill, authored by Senator Lindsey Graham, remains high.

According to the President, the updated version of the document may include not only measures against Russia, but also restrictions on Iran and the "Hezbollah" movement.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported on new details of the bill. The document provides for the introduction of tariffs of up to 100% against the largest buyers of Russian oil and gas. At the same time, the law includes exceptions for those countries that can demonstrate a real reduction in the import of Russian energy carriers.
