# Trump on Ukraine's strikes on Russia: 'This is an escalation that could end the war'

US President Donald Trump expressed support for Ukraine's long-range strikes on Russian territory, stating that such actions could be key to ending the conflict. This was revealed during a meeting between the American leader and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

### "Escalation for the sake of peace"

During the conversation, a journalist asked Trump about the US position regarding Ukrainian attacks deep into Russian territory. The answer was given by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who clarified that Washington and Kyiv are discussing the possibility of expanding the strike zone. The goal is to demonstrate to Moscow the difficulty of defending its own airspace.

Rubio emphasized that such steps, despite their escalatory nature, could pave the way for negotiations. "This is an escalation, but it is an escalation that could lead to the end of the war," he stated.

### Assessment of the situation in Washington

Earlier, the Financial Times, citing sources, reported that Trump was "stunned and captivated" by the effectiveness of Ukraine's campaign of strikes deep into Russia. In June, he also noted that Russia is a large country with powerful armed forces, but that Ukraine's "things are going well".

The American leader also highly praised President Zelenskyy's work, calling his actions sufficiently effective in the context of the ongoing conflict.

### US position and prospects

Thus, Washington not only does not condemn Ukrainian strikes but also views them as a tool of pressure capable of changing the balance of power and accelerating the start of peace talks. This indicates a shift in tone in American rhetoric: from cautious neutrality to more active support for Kyiv in its quest to achieve a military advantage.
