US President Donald Trump has put forward a proposal that could change the logistics of military aid to Ukraine. At the G7 summit, the head of the US administration stated his willingness to consider the possibility of transferring licenses for weapons production to European partners and Kyiv.

### Shortage of air defense systems and the solution to the problem

The key reason for the initiative was an acute shortage of air defense systems. Ukraine critically needs interceptor missiles to repel strikes from Russian ballistic missiles. However, production capacity for creating such high-tech munitions is concentrated exclusively in the United States.

The situation is exacerbated by the fact that the US has exhausted a significant portion of its stockpiles by sending them to Iran and other fronts. Restocking warehouses in America will take time, which may not be available during the active phase of the conflict. This is why Trump proposed that allies consider the option of localizing production: missiles will be created directly in Europe and on Ukrainian territory using American technologies.

### Reaction at the G7 summit

Information about the president's plans was confirmed by officials who wished to remain anonymous. Donald Trump himself also publicly commented on this issue, responding to journalists' requests during the summit.

"They would like to have the ability to do this, we will consider this issue," the White House chief stated, referring to allies' requests for technology transfer.

As a result of meetings within the framework of the G7, participating countries and the US reached an agreement on issuing licenses. This decision will allow Ukraine not only to assemble air defense systems but also to produce long-range weapons, which will significantly expand the capabilities of the Kyiv side in conducting hostilities.

### Zelensky's diplomatic activity

Parallel to the G7-level negotiations, the diplomatic work of the Ukrainian leadership intensified. On June 17, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met in Brussels with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. The main topic of the conversation was strengthening Ukraine's defensive shield and the details of obtaining American licenses for the production of air defense systems.

On the same day, Zelensky held a series of important phone calls. He spoke with US President Donald Trump and French leader Emmanuel Macron. According to the Ukrainian president, these contacts were breakthrough and could change much in the current dynamics of the conflict.
