In June 2026, the world stood on the brink of a major regional conflict as diplomatic efforts by the US and Israeli administrations collided with the harsh reality of military escalation. US President Donald Trump, in his comments, described in detail the course of events preceding Israel's response to Iran's missile strike and the role Washington played in containing the conflict.

### Warning of a "lone" war

The central element of Trump's narrative was his phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which took place immediately before the start of the Israeli operation. According to the American leader, he sternly warned his Israeli counterpart about the risks of escalation.

"I told Bibi that you better be very careful in your actions, because very soon you might be left alone against Iran," Trump quoted his own words. The US President emphasized that in the event the conflict escalated to a full-scale war, international support for Israel might prove insufficient.

### Diplomatic pressure and "stolen days"

Initially, Trump sought to prevent Israel's retaliatory strike against Iran's missile barrage, which occurred on June 7. According to him, negotiations with Tehran were in the final stages, and he asked Netanyahu to refrain from an immediate reaction. However, this conversation did not yield a clear result: Netanyahu did not confirm that he would abandon the attack.

Nevertheless, sources present during the conversation noted that Trump managed to win additional time for diplomats. During this period, five regional countries involved in mediation efforts appealed to the US President to pressure Israel to stop the attacks and move towards an agreement.

### Strike on Iran and a change of scenario

Despite the appeals, Israel did not support the position of restraint. On the morning of June 8, the Israeli army struck missile launchers and military infrastructure in central and western areas of Iran. Trump admitted that the Israelis provided updated information about the attack plans at a very late stage.

"They were already heading to Iran. I managed to reduce the scale of the attack," the US President stated. He also reported that after the operation began, Iran declared a cessation of military actions against Israel, asking the US to convey the relevant message to Tel Aviv. According to Trump, he personally called Netanyahu and forced him to stop further attacks.

### Outcomes of the crisis

Events unfolded rapidly. Following the attack on June 7, Iran, for the first time since April, launched three waves of ballistic missiles. Israeli air defense forces intercepted about ten missiles, and there was no information about casualties resulting from direct hits. In response, Israel struck Iranian territory, prompting Tehran to threaten "harsher and more destructive actions" if the operation continued in southern Lebanon.

By Monday morning, June 8, Iran officially announced the cessation of military operations. Trump emphasized that he still considered himself open to a deal, noting that Iran was also interested in concluding one. Thus, diplomatic pressure and operational negotiations prevented the conflict from escalating into a full-scale war.
