This should not be happening". ### Phone Calls and the Kremlin's Position Trump reported that he had held phone conversations the previous day with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In the American leader's opinion, both sides are "open" to negotiations. However, the format of these talks is causing disagreement. Macron insists that Europe must be present at the negotiating table not as a mediator, but as an equal party.
