Official confirmation appeared on CNN and on the leader's Truth Social page. ### Historic Treasury Decision The initiative to place the signature of the sitting head of state on currency was announced back in March. At that time, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the administration planned to implement this project to celebrate the country's 250th anniversary. According to Bessent, Trump's contribution to the economy as the architect of the "rebirth of America" makes his signature on the money not only appropriate but well-deserved. On the night of July 4, Trump personally demonstrated a mock-up of the banknote. The image clearly shows that the President's signature is placed above the Treasury Secretary's signature. According to current US law, currency and securities may only feature the portrait of a deceased person. Nevertheless, employees of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing were already preparing prototypes of a $250 bill with Trump's portrait and signature. In May, at a briefing in the White House, Scott Bessent told journalist Caitlan Collins that he saw nothing objectionable about placing the image of the sitting president on a bill dedicated to the 250th anniversary. ### Paper trails in history CNN journalists note that placing his name and photo on state documents has become one of Donald Trump's cherished goals. This year, the White House administration has already implemented a number of similar initiatives: the President's photo and name appeared on commemorative passports, passes to national parks, banners in front of institutions in Washington, as well as on special accounts for infants.
