# Tu-22M3 Crash in Irkutsk Region: Crew Saved, but Alarming Statistics Repeat

On June 15, 2026, a serious aviation incident involving military equipment occurred in the Irkutsk region. A Tu-22M3 long-range supersonic bomber-carrying aircraft, performing flight tasks, made a hard landing and caught fire. The site of the tragedy is located in the area of the city of Svirsk, on the bank of the Angara River.

### Rescue of the Crew and Consequences on the Ground

Fortunately, the disaster did not result in any human casualties. All four crew members managed to eject before the impact with the ground. Witnesses in the area of the crash recorded pilots descending by parachute on video. The aircraft crashed in an uninhabited area, which helped avoid casualties among the civilian population. Immediately after the impact, a powerful column of smoke rose at the crash site and a fire started. According to preliminary data, no damage to civilian infrastructure has been recorded.

### Version of Causes and Alarming Statistics

Official authorities have already begun investigating the circumstances of the incident. At the moment, the main version under consideration is a technical malfunction of the aircraft. However, this case is not an isolated event. Statistics from recent years show an alarming trend: similar crashes of Tu-22M3 aircraft in the Irkutsk region, caused by equipment failures, were also recorded in August 2024 and April 2025.

The repetition of such incidents in one region involving the same model of equipment inevitably raises questions about the technical condition of the fleet and maintenance procedures. Until the official conclusions of the investigation are announced, the fact remains a fact: in the last two years, this area has already seen the third fall of a strategic bomber.
