On the night of June 27, the Ukrainian Air Force confirmed the loss of a MiG-29 fighter jet. The incident occurred in the Poltava region while the aircraft was on a combat mission. Despite the severity of the incident, the pilot managed to eject successfully and survive.

### Incident details

According to information published in the Telegram channel of the Ukrainian Air Force, contact was lost with a MiG-29 fighter jet on the night of June 27. The military promptly confirmed the loss of the aircraft. However, the tragedy could have resulted in the pilot's death had the emergency escape system not activated in time.

UAF representatives provided details on the rescue: the pilot not only ejected but also managed to establish contact with the search and rescue team. The serviceman was promptly transported to a medical facility where he received necessary assistance and underwent an examination.

### Second aviation disaster in two weeks

This incident marks the second loss of combat aircraft for the Ukrainian Air Force in the last two weeks. Just a month ago, on June 16, a tragedy involving a Su-24M bomber occurred in the Khmelnytskyi region. In that case, the flight crew was unable to escape.

As the military clarified, the deceased officers—Major Bohdan Zaharulko and Senior Lieutenant Oleksandr Babenko—were carrying out a combat mission in the Khmelnytskyi region. Their deaths were a significant loss for the personnel of the Ukrainian Air Force.

### Situation in the sky

A series of incidents involving combat aviation on the Ukrainian side of the front indicates the difficult conditions under which pilots must operate. While the pilot's life was saved in the case of the MiG-29 in Poltava, the incident in the Khmelnytskyi region serves as a reminder of the high risks associated with carrying out combat missions under current conditions.
