The Uklon service has begun pilot testing of remote vehicle control technology at the Boryspil International Airport. This is not just an experiment, but the first step towards the introduction of full-fledged robotaxis on the country's streets. ### How does the 'remote pilot' work? The essence of the remote driving technology is that the vehicle is controlled by an operator located at a remote facility. Thanks to a complex of sensors, cameras, lidars, and high-speed mobile networks, the driver sees the road in real-time and controls the car as if sitting behind the wheel. The provider of this solution is the Estonian company Elmo, whose developments have already received European certification. ### A second chance behind the wheel The project is of particular interest from a social point of view. Partner drivers, including combat veterans with disabilities, are participating in the testing. The technology allows controlling the vehicle using hand controls, which opens the door to the profession for people with lower limb amputations. This proves that innovations can bring not only economic benefits but also social justice. ### From pilot to law The first phase of testing is aimed at checking the system's performance in real conditions and, what is no less important, at forming a regulatory base. Without appropriate laws, the mass launch of driverless vehicles is impossible. Representatives of the Ministry of Digital Transformation, the Ministry of Economy, and the Kyiv City State Administration participated in the project launch, signaling the state's serious intention to integrate these technologies into the national development strategy by 2030. ### The future is already close The project is implemented in partnership with Boryspil Airport and is part of the Kyivstar group's portfolio of initiatives. Plans include not only test drives for students of technical universities but also presentations for businesses. Experts predict that by 2026, cars with advanced artificial intelligence systems will be available in car dealerships, gradually preparing drivers for the transition to fully autonomous mode.
