# Ukraine Aims to Maintain Grain Export Levels Despite Port Attacks

Ukrainian authorities have stated their readiness to take all possible measures to protect seaports and maintain agricultural exports. Deputy Minister of Economy Taras Vysotsky emphasized that the state considers supporting agro-exports a priority task.

«It will be difficult, but we will do everything possible to maintain minimum guaranteed export volumes to support international food security at no less than last year's level», — the official noted.

### Forecasts and Current Losses

Before the intensification of Russian attacks, Ukraine planned to export about 43 million metric tons of grain in the 2026/27 season, which began in July. Last year, the country exported more than 37 million tons. However, according to the main farmers' union in the country, UAC, Ukraine has already lost about a third of its export capacity due to strikes on Black Sea ports.

An industry source told Reuters that four out of 13 major grain terminals have suspended grain purchases. Another source added that some shipowners are refusing to enter Ukrainian ports due to fears of new attacks.

### Attacks on Infrastructure and Consequences

Local officials confirmed that Russia has again attacked port infrastructure in the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions. More than four years after the start of the war, agricultural exports remain the largest source of foreign currency inflows for Ukraine. More than 90% of the products are supplied through three ports in the south of the Odesa region.

Both Moscow and Kyiv are intensifying strikes on each other's key sources of income: Ukrainian troops are striking Russian energy infrastructure, including oil tankers, while Russia has stepped up attacks on Black Sea ports in recent weeks.

### Consequences for Business

Earlier, RBK-Ukraine reported that after massive attacks on July 10–12, the agro-holding «Kernel» suspended operations at its export terminal in the Chornomorsk port. Grain silos, sunflower oil tanks, and equipment were damaged. Ships under the flags of China and other countries were in the port at the time of the attacks.

On July 14, Russia struck merchant ships in the Black Sea again. Among the dead was the captain of one of the ships.
