# Ukraine's Air Defense: 89% of Drones Shot Down, but Ballistic Missiles Remain the Main Threat

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has summarized the performance of its air defense forces over the past month, characterized by unprecedented intensity of Russian attacks. According to the department, Ukrainian forces intercepted the overwhelming majority of aerial targets, although the effectiveness of protection against ballistic missiles remains a serious concern.

### Air War Statistics

During the reporting period, Russia launched nearly 6,000 attack drones and missiles against Ukrainian territory. Despite the colossal density of fire, air defense systems demonstrated high effectiveness in combating unmanned aerial vehicles. In total, 89% of all aerial targets were shot down, indicating well-organized defense and high combat readiness of the crews.

### Critical Issue: Ballistic Missiles

The main vulnerability of Ukrainian defense, according to military officials, remains ballistic missiles. While the situation with drones is under control, the interception rate for ballistic targets has dropped to 40%. This creates serious risks for critical infrastructure and the civilian population.

Experts and military personnel link this problem to a shortage of expensive munitions. Effective interception of ballistic missiles requires significant quantities of PAC-3 missiles used in Patriot air defense systems. Current stockpiles are insufficient to ensure total protection against high-speed targets.

### Call to International Partners

In light of this, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has made a direct request to Western allies. Kyiv is urging partners to transfer interceptor missiles currently in storage. The department has identified ensuring the safety of the country's critical infrastructure from precision missile weapons as a priority task.

### Consequences of Recent Attacks

The urgency of the issue is confirmed by recent events. On the night of July 9, Russia carried out a massive strike using ballistic missiles, attack UAVs, and "Parodia" type decoy drones. As a result of the attack, the impact of two ballistic missiles and 19 attack drones was recorded at 13 locations.

Earlier, on July 8, occupiers struck Odesa with two ballistic missiles. The incident led to tragic consequences: four people were killed, and six others were injured. These figures clearly demonstrate the destructive potential of ballistic weapons and the urgent need to strengthen air defense capabilities.
