# A New Phase of War: Ukraine Attacks Crimea from the Sea Using FPV Drones Launched from Magura Boats

The Ukrainian Military Intelligence (GUR) reported a unprecedented operation in Crimea, which, according to Kyiv, changes the tactics of warfare. For the first time, the use of unmanned surface vessels (USVs) "Magura" has been recorded not only for attacking maritime targets but also as mobile platforms for launching FPV drones against ground targets on the peninsula.

### Tactical Breakthrough: Attack from Sea to Land

The operation was carried out by Operational Group 13 at the end of July. According to GUR data, the "Magura" boats approached the coastline and launched first-person view (FPV) drones, which struck two key targets. The targets hit were the command post of the "Podlet" radar system and a "friend or foe" identification device of the "Parol-4" type.

Representatives of Ukrainian intelligence emphasized that this is the first case of using a maritime platform to launch air drones against land targets. "From now on, our "Magura" platforms will pose a threat to the ground forces of the Russian Federation as well. This represents a fundamental shift, taking the war to a new level," stated the GUR.

### Balance of Power and History of Group 13 Operations

Group 13, known for its sabotage operations in the Black Sea, had previously demonstrated the high effectiveness of "Magura" boats. According to the Ukrainian side, the units used these vessels for:

    - Sinking nine ships of the Russian Navy;

    - Damaging five other vessels;

    - Shooting down three helicopters and two combat drones;

    - Damaging another helicopter.

As of May 2025, according to the Kyiv newspaper "Independent," the "Magura" played a decisive role in Black Sea operations, attacking a total of 17 maritime and aerial targets. It is also reported that the company HUR plans to present the latest generation "Magura" unmanned boats to the public on May 14, 2025.

### Massive Strikes on Crimea: Explosions and Fires

The night of August 3rd passed in Crimea amidst the sound of explosions. Local residents and monitoring channels recorded numerous incidents in various areas of the peninsula. Powerful explosions were heard in Kerch, and the Crimean Bridge was closed to traffic around 1:00 AM local time.

According to reports in Telegram channels, including "Exilena+", a substation in Kerch was hit. Satellite images confirm the presence of fires in the area of the construction camp involved in building the bridge. The "Crimean Wind" channel reported a fire 300 meters from the TEP oil and gas storage facility — an object that had previously been a target of attacks. Fires were also recorded at a fuel depot in Feodosia and at the central market in Kerch.

### Confirmation by the General Staff and Air Defense Response

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the attacks on military infrastructure objects. In particular, the following were attacked:

    - A material and technical support depot and repair base of a Russian artillery brigade in the Novo-Zhyttia area (a facility for storing weapons and repairing equipment);

    - MTO depots near Okunivka and Naumivka;

    - A communications center near Artemivka.

On the Russian side, the Ministry of Defense reported intercepting 131 unmanned aerial vehicles overnight over Crimea, the Black Sea, and other regions. Despite claims regarding the effectiveness of air defense, the Ukrainian side insists on the successful destruction of several strategic targets, including radar systems and logistics hubs.
