## 🎯 Key Points

- Ukraine has begun developing its own satellite communication system.
- The project is described as an analogue to the global Starlink network.
- The president linked technological development to the need for protection against external threats.

Ukraine has officially launched the process of developing and creating its own satellite communication system. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the start of this ambitious technological project during a conversation with media representatives in October 2026. According to the head of state, Ukrainian specialists have already achieved their first practical developments, and work is underway in an active mode.

### Concept of the Starlink Alternative and Strategic Goals

Commenting on the details of the new technological direction, the president succinctly characterized the project as an initiative similar to the global Starlink network. Despite high interest from the expert community and media, the Ukrainian head of state chose to refrain from disclosing technical details, deployment timelines, and project funding volumes for security reasons.

### Contradictory Data

While official statements from Kyiv emphasize the independent nature of the technological groundwork, Western and specialized analytical publications focus on the complex nature of space and information warfare. In particular, some sources point to Ukraine's direct request to international partners and the US for assistance in countering the deployment of similar Russian projects, as well as the need for legal regulation of the use of communication systems for military operations.

Geopolitical Context and Technology Competition

Against the backdrop of news about its own satellite project, Volodymyr Zelenskyy again raised the issue of the fairness of granting Ukraine full access to satellite internet to strike back at military targets inside Russia. The president argued that Kyiv has information about Moscow potentially receiving similar technological solutions from third countries in the near future. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian side continues to express gratitude to key Western allies for the technological support already provided.
