# New protection standard: Ukraine's Ministry of Defense purchases 2,000 reinforced female body armor vests

The Ukrainian Armed Forces have received a new batch of equipment designed with female anatomical features in mind. The Defense Procurement Agency (DPA) has purchased 2,000 female modular body armor vests. The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has revealed the technical details of the new product, its cost, and the criteria for size selection.

### Enhanced protection level

The main difference of the new batch is the increased protection class, designated as Level "P". This significantly exceeds standard basic requirements. The body armor vests are capable of withstanding direct hits from B-32 armor-piercing bullets and LPS rifle cartridges from the SVD sniper rifle (7.62 mm).

For comparison, the standard basic level (Level "B") is designed only for AK-74 type machine gun bullets and old-model rifle cartridges (pre-1989). The design uses modern ceramic-composite armor, replacing heavy metal. Additionally, soft ballistic panels are used to protect against shrapnel and pistol bullets.

### Testing in extreme conditions

Before being sent to the front, each sample undergoes rigorous testing. The body armor vests are frozen to -40°C, heated to +70°C, and submerged in salt water. After such tests, the products fully retain their protective properties.

The high level of protection inevitably increases the weight of the structure, so engineers paid special attention to ergonomics:

- **MOLLE system:** attachments for pouches and additional equipment are provided on the front, rear, and side pouches.

- **Quick release:** allows the body armor vest to be removed with one hand, even when lying down.

- **Evacuation:** a system for moving a wounded serviceman in gear is provided on the rear pouch.

- **Ventilation:** drainage holes in the lower part of the pouches help remove moisture.

### Anatomical features

The key feature that makes this body armor vest specifically female is the damping-climatic support. This element is located on the inner wall of the front pouch and creates special air channels. The anatomical detail performs three important functions, ensuring comfort during wear.

Such body armor vests are produced upon special request from units where women serve. The technical specification defines 12 components forming two supply options. Upon separate order, the kit can be supplemented with forearm, shin, and coccyx protection, as well as a positive buoyancy element — an inflatable device that automatically activates when submerged in water.

### Sizes and weight

The female body armor vest is produced in four sizes — S, M, L, XL, tied to chest circumference and height. The total weight depends on the configuration:

- **Basic kit (elements 1–5):** from 10.5 kg (size S) to 15.5 kg (size XL).

- **Full kit (elements 1-8):** from 13.0 to 17.5 kg respectively.

The damping-climatic support is included in the total weight of the kit, as it is attached to the inner walls of the pouches.

Recall that earlier the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine approved a new camouflage pattern MM-25. In addition, the "State Logistics Operator" purchased body armor vests with a positive buoyancy element for the first time, capable of saving Ukraine's defenders in the water even with weapons.
