This event marked the culmination of Kyiv's efforts towards EU membership, as this block is the last of the six required to complete the accession procedures. ### The Final Push: Opening Cluster 6 The third Ukraine-EU Intergovernmental Conference, held on July 14, recorded the start of negotiations on this key direction. The decision to launch the cluster was prepared in advance: as early as July 10, ambassadors of EU countries supported the initiative, recognizing Ukraine's readiness to discuss foreign policy issues. This is the second cluster opened for the country after the fundamental 'Foundations' block. The opening of the final negotiation block became the subject of active discussions in European capitals. In particular, Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal previously called on Brussels to take decisive action, insisting on the need to immediately open all negotiation clusters to accelerate the process. ### 99% Alignment with the EU The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine takes responsibility for implementing reforms within one of the chapters of the cluster β€” Chapter 31. It covers critically important areas: foreign policy, security policy, and defense. Andriy Sybyha, Head of Ukraine's foreign policy body, commented on the current status of the work. According to him, in recent years, the country has achieved almost complete harmonization of its approaches with the positions of the European Union. "One of the two chapters within Cluster 6 β€” Chapter 31 β€” falls under the responsibility of the MFA of Ukraine for the implementation of reforms. And I can proudly say that in recent years we have achieved 99% alignment of Ukraine's foreign policy with the EU's policy," the diplomat noted. Alignment of positions means that Ukraine does not just declare a course towards Europe, but actually integrates its security and diplomatic strategy into the pan-European decision-making system.
