## 🎯 Key Points

- Destruction of Mi-28 helicopter by FPV drone
- Operation by the 'Aliens' unit of the 115th Brigade
- Evolving threat of UAVs to aviation

A unit from the 'Aliens' anti-aircraft missile division, part of the 115th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the AFU, has reported a unique combat operation. During active hostilities, Ukrainian operators successfully intercepted and destroyed a modern Russian Mi-28 attack helicopter. This incident serves as further confirmation of the increasing efficiency of utilizing unmanned technologies against high-value aviation assets.

### Operation Details

According to the official statement from the 115th Mechanized Brigade, the FPV drone performed a direct interception in mid-air. The «precision work» by the unit's pilots allowed for critical damage to be inflicted on the aircraft, resulting in its total incapacitation. Brigade representatives stated that the helicopter crew had no chance of saving the equipment under such conditions.

### Contradictory data

Despite the success in striking Mi-28 and Mi-8 type helicopters, some terminological confusion persists in reports. Certain sources, including reports from July 2026, mention incidents over border territories such as the Belgorod region, yet operational updates often lack real-time confirmation of the specific helicopter model. While the 115th Brigade insists the target was a modernized Mi-28, other front-line sectors have reported the destruction of transport-combat Mi-8s, leading to discussions regarding target identification during intense aerial encounters.

### Significance of Drone Usage

This episode highlights a shift in modern warfare tactics, where compact and relatively inexpensive UAVs have become a severe threat to heavy army aviation. Experts note that the drones' ability to maneuver and strike vulnerable components of helicopters challenges the effectiveness of traditional aviation defense systems. Today, this AFU success is classified as a significant precedent that alters the balance of power in the airspace over the battlefield.
