# American marathon: Ukrainian tennis players prepare for a series of WTA 1000 tournaments in North America

Ukrainian tennis is facing one of the busiest stretches of the summer season. Representatives of the national team have finalized their schedule for the coming weeks, focusing their efforts on prestigious competitions in the USA and Canada. According to the updated calendar published by the Ukrainian Tennis Federation (BTU), the main group of athletes from the top 100 of the world rankings is starting the American series.

### Elina Svitolina and top players in the spotlight

Ukraine's top-ranked player, Elina Svitolina, currently holding the 10th spot in the WTA rankings, begins her transatlantic tour with the WTA 500 tournament in Washington. The competition will take place from July 27 to August 2. After starting in the US capital, the Ukrainian player will head to prestigious WTA 1000 series tournaments: first in Toronto (August 3–9), and then in Cincinnati (August 10–23).

Most other Ukrainian tennis players from the top 100 will skip the current week to register directly for the North American "1000s". The draw for the tournament in Toronto includes Marta Kostyuk (WTA #11), Oleksandra Oleinikova (WTA #44), Angelina Kalinina (WTA #54), and Dayana Yastremska (WTA #87). All of them plan to continue their participation in Cincinnati.

Yuliia Starodubtseva (WTA #62) is currently playing in the WTA 250 tournament in Memphis, after which she will also join the main group in Toronto and Cincinnati.

### Schedule for the rest of the athletes

Daria Snigur (WTA #43) will return to action after a break at the WTA 125 tournament in Warsaw (August 3–9), and then head to the competition in Cincinnati. Veronika Podrez (WTA #134) is also registered for the tournament in the Polish capital.

A number of Ukrainian tennis players will be competing in WTA 125 and ITF series tournaments around the world during these weeks:

- Anastasiia Soboleva (WTA #196) and Yelyzaveta Kotliar (WTA #450) have started competing at the WTA 125 in Târgu Mureș, Romania. After this, Soboleva will play at the ITF W75 tournament in Leipzig.

- Kateryna Zavatska (WTA #256) is preparing for the ITF W75 tournament in Kuršumlijska Banja, Serbia (August 10–16).

- Daria Yesipchuk (WTA #539) and Anastasiia Firman (WTA #632) are competing at the ITF W50 in Knokke-Heist, Belgium. Additionally, Firman, Kotliar, and Yesipchuk will play in Bydgoszcz, Poland, at the ITF W35 (August 10–16).

- Maria Lazarenko (WTA #683) has registered for the ITF W50 in Slovenia.

- Anita Sagdieva (WTA #872) is playing a series of W35 tournaments in the USA.

- Kateryna Lazarenko (WTA #766) will play in the ITF W15 competition in Astana in mid-August.

Organizers note that the preliminary schedule of appearances may be subject to change depending on the players' results during the current week. Earlier, it was reported that Daria Snigur and Oleksandra Oleinikova set personal records in the WTA rankings.
