In the Persian Gulf, which has remained a closed zone for more than three months due to military hostilities, a large-scale humanitarian operation has unfolded. The UN has initiated a mass evacuation of hundreds of foreign vessels and thousands of sailors stranded in the region. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has already received the necessary security guarantees from key players in the conflict, allowing the unblocking of shipping to begin.

### Scale of the crisis: 600 vessels and 11,000 people

The situation in the region has reached a critical point. According to the International Maritime Organization, 600 vessels have been blocked in the waters of the gulf. This blockade is a direct consequence of the escalation of hostilities between the USA, Israel, and Iran. On board the stranded ships are 11,000 crew members whose lives and health were at risk.

IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez confirmed that sailors have suffered from uncertainty and difficulties for months. "We have provided the necessary security guarantees and carefully verified the conditions for safe navigation to support these operations," emphasized Dominguez, noting that the evacuation plan has already been launched.

### Special corridor through Oman

To implement the operation to free the vessels, a complex international coalition was created. The UN agency began direct contact with ship captains, and the operation itself is being conducted jointly with the United States, Oman, and Iran.

The key element of the plan was logistics. The Ministry of Defense of Oman determined a special safe corridor for vessel movement. Ships must follow along the coast of this country, where US military forces have been coordinating movement and ensuring security in these areas for several weeks.

### Economic consequences and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz

Unblocking the straits has not only humanitarian but also global economic significance. After the signing of a memorandum between the USA and Iran, President Donald Trump stated that the Strait of Hormuz is now "fully open".

According to him, on June 21 alone, more oil was transported through the strait than ever before. To confirm the stabilization of the situation, the US Treasury Department announced a temporary suspension of sanctions against Iranian oil. However, this exception is limited and will be in effect for only 60 days.
