The Ukrainian football world has learned the final list of participants for the top division for the 2025/26 season. The decisive play-off matches held over the weekend settled the question of who will continue the fight in the elite and who will move to the First League.

### Play-off results and relegation from the elite

Following the regular season of the Ukraine Championship 2025/26, two teams left the top division directly. However, the fate of two other spots was decided in tense play-off matches. In them, the 3rd and 4th teams of the First League fought for the right to play in the UPL against the teams that finished in the penultimate places in the elite.

The result of the confrontation was dramatic: one of the UPL teams managed to defend its right to participate in the top division, while its opponent was relegated to a lower class. Thus, a list of 16 teams was formed that will fight for the championship in the next season.

### Important condition for new elite members

However, the sporting result is only half the battle. In the history of Ukrainian football, there have been precedents where teams that qualified for the elite on sporting grounds still could not start the season in the UPL. The reason was a failed accreditation: the clubs simply did not meet the strict financial and infrastructural norms of the top division.

Therefore, the final list of participants for the 2025/26 season will only be known after the official decisions of the UAF and UPL regarding the inspection of the newcomers. For now, everyone is waiting for confirmation that all play-off winners will receive a license to participate in the elite.

### European competition prospects

Alongside determining the domestic lineup, the European ambitions of Ukrainian clubs are also known. Earlier, data was published on which teams will represent Ukraine in the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League in the upcoming season.
