# The Deal of the Century: US and Iran Sign Memorandum Changing the Rules of the Game in the Middle East

This Sunday, the world will witness a historic event that could radically alter the geopolitical map of the Middle East. The United States and Iran, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, will hold a virtual meeting to sign a memorandum of understanding. The decision to hold the meeting remotely was the result of a complex logistical challenge related to the US leadership's schedule.

### Logistics dictate the terms: why the meeting will be held online

US officials and sources in the mediating countries have confirmed: the signing of the agreement will take place in electronic format. The schedule of President Donald Trump played a key role in this decision. On Monday morning, he is scheduled to fly to France for the G7 summit. At the same time, Vice President JD Vance, who is leading the US delegation at the negotiations, will physically not be able to return to the United States before the head of state departs. This is why the parties chose a digital format to complete three months of work on the framework agreement.

### What lies behind the memorandum: from the Strait of Hormuz to the nuclear program

The document, which diplomats have been working on for the last three months, contains provisions capable of stabilizing the situation in the region. It is expected that the memorandum will perform several critically important functions:

- Extension of the ceasefire regime for 60 days.

- Ensuring the safety of shipping and opening the Strait of Hormuz.

- Launching full-fledged negotiations on Iran's nuclear program.

- Formal end of hostilities.

Experts believe that the implementation of these points could lead to significant stabilization of global energy markets, which have long been under tension due to regional instability.

### Positions of the parties: from Trump's optimism to Tehran's skepticism

US President Donald Trump has already announced the successful conclusion of the deal, stating that Iran will completely abandon the development and purchase of nuclear weapons. Earlier, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also confirmed that the document would be signed within 24 hours in electronic form.

However, in Tehran, the mood is more reserved. Iranian sources claim that the signing of the deal will not take place today, although they do not rule out its conclusion in the near future. Meanwhile, Israel, whose interests are directly affected by the agreement, has already expressed criticism. As reported by Ynet, in Jerusalem they believe that Trump has "set up" the country by preparing a deal with Iran.
