# Vadym Yatsenko leaves Lviv Opera: Farewell to the 'school of life' and a new challenge with the Verevka Choir

A significant event has occurred in the Ukrainian music world: conductor and artistic director of the 'Homyn' choir, Vadym Yatsenko, has officially left the Lviv National Opera. For eight years, he held the position of the theater's chief choirmaster, leaving a deep mark on its history.

The artist announced his decision on Facebook, where he published a touching post addressed to his colleagues and the theater's management. Yatsenko thanked the General Director and Artistic Director of the Lviv National Opera, Vasyl Vovkun. According to the conductor, this stage was a true school of life and art for him.

### 'School of Life' and Personal Contribution

In his farewell address, Yatsenko emphasized the importance of the mentorship he received within the theater walls. 'I will never stop thanking Vasyl for the fact that everything started with him. For what I now know and can do. And for the great joy and honor of calling him my friend,' the musician wrote.

He expressed special warm feelings regarding his workplace. The conductor nostalgically recalled his 'trendiest' office, decorated with posters of rock groups and football players, as well as a legendary phrase by the band 'Kurgan i Agregat' at the exit.

However, memories of the Lviv Opera are not limited to interior aesthetics. Yatsenko admitted that his office played an important role at the beginning of the full-scale war. He bought a sofa for 700 hryvnias so that people arriving in Lviv in the first days of the conflict would have a place to sleep.

### New Horizon: The Hryhorii Verevka Choir

Leaving the opera was not a full stop for Vadym Yatsenko, but a comma. Immediately after finishing his work in Lviv, he headed the National Merited Academic Ukrainian Folk Choir named after Hryhorii Verevka. This was announced on the collective's official Facebook page.

The new director sees ambitious tasks ahead. 'For me, this is the leading musical ensemble of the country with a unique level of recognition and artistic authority,' noted Yatsenko.

The conductor's action plan includes:

- Developing the potential of the ensemble.

- Expanding the scale of activities.

- Creating new concert projects.

- Opening new stage venues both in Ukraine and abroad.

The main goal is to maintain the choir's status as a symbol of Ukrainian musical culture and ensure its confident movement forward.

### Personal and Professional

Vadym Yatsenko continues to remain an in-demand cultural figure. In 2025, he was awarded the title of Merited Artist of Ukraine. In parallel with his new position, he remains the artistic director and conductor of the Lviv municipal choir 'Homyn', which has gained wide recognition thanks to the modern reinterpretation of Ukrainian choral music.

In his farewell, Yatsenko also touched upon rumors of possible conflicts in the theater. He stated that he is leaving the opera, but the theater will never leave him. 'I love everyone! Don't cry. I'll come back and check! Next is even more interesting,' he added, putting an end to speculations about the reasons for his departure.
